ENVRIONEMENTAL IMPLICATIONS

Reduce our impact, our priority.

OUR VISION

At La Cédrière Barbe, we care about the respect of the environment and we work every day a little more to improve our ecological footprint.

Over the years, a number of steps have been taken to reduce the ecological impact of our business, and thus to join the broad movement back to environmentally friendly practices.

RECYCLING CONTAINERS

When we pull the trees out of the fields, we put them in very strong black plastic pots to make the handling as well as the transport of the trees by our teams and by our customers more simple and ergonomic.

These very versatile pots were often cut and unfortunately thrown away after planting the trees. To fight against waste and give a second life to these pots, we have initiated a system of instructions since 2014. After planting trees, we ask our customers to bring us back the empty pots in good condition. We then offer a full refund of the price of the pot charged during the purchase of the tree.

And, the operation is a success! Most of our customers entered the game and almost all the pots come back to us. Everyone participates in the recovery and reuse of containers. Congratulations to our customers!

WATER CONSUMPTION

When we pull the trees out of the fields, we put them in very strong black plastic pots to make the handling as well as the transport of the trees by our teams and by our customers more simple and ergonomic.

In order to consume as little water as possible and to avoid wasting this precious resource, we opted for a drip irrigation system. This allows us to use about 60% less water than with a traditional sprinkler system. This system also helps to reduce the stress cause by the water to the trees during periods of drought, and improves the quality of our plant

AGRONOMY SERVICE

Ornamental crops must meet the high aesthetic standards prevailing in the field of landscaping in Quebec. We work very hard so that our trees are always more beautiful and healthy.

With this in mind, we are members of the IQDHO (Quebec Institute for the Development of Ornamental Horticulture) and we often ask for their advice on phytosanitary solutions.

Thanks to this organization, whose mission is to help producers increase the quality and efficiency of their production, that allow us to make regulars tests in our fields. This allows us to prevent possible damage to our crops because we never treat in prevention, but only in case of disorder.

If the situation demands it, we establish an ecologically phytosanitary action plan. For this, we make sure to use products with low impact, the least harmful to the environment and the most targeted possible. We try not to harm non-detrimental and / or beneficial organisms and thus protect the existing ecosystem.

DIESEL TRUCK FLEET

In order to improve fuel efficiency and reduce carbon dioxide emissions, we have diesel vehicles for the daily needs of the company.

Diesel engines are more efficient (thanks to diesel compression ignition) and consume less fuel. Consumption is effectively reduced by 15 to 30% on average. At the same time, all our vehicles are equipped with antipollution devices that help to convert NOx (pollutant nitrogen oxides) into hydrogen and water vapor.

ORGANIC FERTILIZERS

Over time, we have chosen to offer to our customers organic fertilizers only, mainly based on chicken manure and other natural elements such as ground bone or feather meal.

Unlike chemical fertilizers that deplete and degrade soils, organic fertilizers feed the soil and enrich it so that it can support crops.

We strongly wish to continue our efforts to further reduce our ecological impact. The growing interest in a greater respect for the environment and the involvement of our customers in this process is our biggest driver!
