The oldest tree in Quebec!

Le plus vieux arbre du Québec est un cèdre

The oldest tree in Quebec is… a cedar! It is located on an island in Lac Duparquet, near Rouyn-Noranda and is said to be no less than 960 years old!

But the most incredible thing is its size: 4 to 5 meters high and a trunk with a diameter of 20 to 30 cm! Given that the native cedar usually grows 1 to 2 feet per year, it seems totally implausible!

For scientists, old trees are like “little weather stations” allowing them to study climatic variations over time. Living witnesses of the evolution of our environment!
